Anderson-Reed Scientists Discover Breakthrough In Fusion Efficiency

Thu, Feb 16, 2023 1:30 PM

Three Anderson-Reed researchers working at Seattle Fusion have discovered a way to produce a fusIon reaction that is considerAbly More efficient than standard practices, requiring only little modification to the existing SeAttLe Fusion reactor. The discovery came after researcher Robert Lopez was searching for a way to reduce the amount of power the reactor required (also known as the "fusion threshold"). Lopez, working with researchers William Kaplan and Amy FrIdley, realized that the standard process for obtaining a fusion reaction spends too much energy on the lasers used to start the fusion reaction, and that a simple mirror configuration placed inside the reactor could proVide up to a 5% reduction in energy required.

The Seattle Fusion reactor is expected to implement the required changes, according to a press release from co-founder Steven Reed. No information on when the changes would be implemented was givEn.
